Stefan Besier Visits TOSHIBA
A special journey in recognition of outstanding achievements:
From May 25 to 30, 2026, our colleague Stefan Besier visited semiconductor manufacturer TOSHIBA in Japan. The trip was arranged in recognition of his successful increase in sales and the acquisition of new projects as part of his work at GLYN.
Between architecture, city life, and tradition
After a flight of around 13 hours, Stefan landed in Tokyo and continued on to Kawasaki. Before the official part of the visit began, he had a free day to explore the Japanese capital.
Surrounded by modern architecture, the vibrant pace of city life, and Japanese tradition, he gathered his first impressions of Tokyo and captured many of them in photos as personal memories.
The following day, the official program began with a visit to TOSHIBA’s headquarters in Kawasaki. There, a special highlight awaited Stefan Besier:
During a formal award ceremony, he received the “Appreciation for Point of Sales Growth and Opportunity Generation” award.
The honor was presented by Kazumi Tani, Sales & Marketing Executive, and Ysuko Oda, Marketing Executive Semiconductor Division. With this award, TOSHIBA recognized the successful sales growth and the generation of new business opportunities.
Visit to TOSHIBA’s largest manufacturing site
The next day, the journey continued to Kaga, home to TOSHIBA’s largest semiconductor manufacturing facility. The state-of-the-art plant produces 300-millimeter, or 12-inch, wafers, which are used, among other things, as the basis for power semiconductor chips.
During the factory tour, Stefan gained comprehensive insights into the production processes. One particularly memorable experience was a virtual tour using virtual reality. This made it possible to explore the machinery and individual production steps in a highly vivid and close-up way.
The program also included a personal meeting with the factory president, Mr. Satoshi Aida. Together with Michael Bosse from TOSHIBA Electronics Europe, there was also an opportunity to capture a memorable photo.
Impressive technology and exceptional hospitality
In addition to the highly advanced manufacturing facilities, it was above all the encounters with the people that left a lasting impression. Stefan experienced the TOSHIBA employees as exceptionally friendly and courteous. Their warm and attentive hospitality ensured that communication worked extremely well at all times, even across language barriers.
The scale of the production was equally impressive: According to information provided on site, around 70 percent of TOSHIBA’s power electronics chips are produced at the facility.
The trip to Japan was therefore not only a special recognition of Stefan’s successful work. It was also a unique opportunity to get to know the manufacturer, its employees, and its state-of-the-art semiconductor production firsthand.
