Alder Lake Processors – Full Performance Spectrum in All Sizes and Variants

The 12th generation of Intel® Core processor platforms has taken a giant leap forward with the introduction of the innovative performance hybrid architecture.

The advantages

This significant design combines two different core types on a single chip: performance cores (P-cores) and efficiency cores (E-cores). The advantage of this architecture is the ability to optimise both performance and energy efficiency. P-cores are designed to process resource-intensive tasks, while E-cores efficiently handle lighter workloads.

Compatibility and lifespan

In terms of compatibility and lifespan, Intel is also breaking new ground, because the processors of the 12th, 13th, 14th and partly 15th generation will be compatible in terms of socket. A BIOS update keeps the products upgradeable.

Entry-level platforms Alder Lake-N and Amston Lake

However, not every application requires the high processing power of the P-cores. In response, low-cost entry-level platforms have been developed based on the Gracemont CPU microarchitecture, offering a unique combination of performance, affordability and low power consumption. This new generation, known as Alder Lake-N / Amston-Lake, features a range of processors, including the Intel® processor N-series, Intel Atom® processor X-series, and most notably, the Intel® Core i3 processor N-series.

The main theme of this collection is energy efficiency, with CPUs ranging from 6W to 15W in Thermal Design Power (TDP), which corresponds to different processing capacities. These processors cover a wide range of applications, from the 2-core Intel Atom®x7211E to the robust 8-core Intel®Corei3-N305, offering a versatile processor series suitable for operating solutions in a variety of markets.
