These ultra-compact RTCs RV-8263-C8 for I2C and RV-8063-C8 for SPI from the Swiss manufacturer MICRO CRYSTAL set new standards in miniaturization. They require only slightly more space than an SMD component in an 0805 package.
The two RTCs are ideal for applications that require an extremely long battery life or where there is no space for large batteries. These would include applications in smart metering, wearables, IoT and similar industrial or consumer applications.
The built-in power management function enables low current consumption of 190 nA over a wide voltage range of 0.9 - 5.5 V. The RTC can be buffered with a small capacitor, supercap or coin cell.
In addition to the standard RTC functions, the device contains a countdown timer that can trigger interrupts at intervals of 0.062-15300 seconds.
Additionally 7 CLKOUT frequencies from 1Hz - 32768Hz are programmable. There is also a register (offset) where frequency drift due to aging of the internal crystal can be corrected.
The RTCs are register compatible to the NXP PCF85063 and can also be ordered for automotive with AEC-Q200.

With this software all functions of the RV-8263-C8 can be tested and programmed. As hardware you can use the USB-I2C-Interface from ELV, which is connected to the Development Board.
