Small, but IoT-oho!
5 x 5 mm 32-bit MCU with powerful analog front-end

PG23 5 x 5 mm 32-Bit MCU from SILICON LABS

The "Tiny" Gecko - ideal for sensor tasks and including LCD controller on board. Powerful, highly efficient and low-cost on only 5 x 5 mm.

SILICON LABS expands its EFM32 family with the PG23. This 32-bit MCU features a powerful analog front-end with up to 20-bit. The integrated LESENSE unit with 16 channels (max.) is ideal for sensor tasks.

The PG23 peripherals are rounded off by an LCD controller with 4 x 20 segments. The resulting IoT MCU is at home in the world of smart meters, smart homes and, of course, building automation. The PG23 thus expands the PG22 by the areas of ADC and LCD.

It doesn't always have to be wireless

With this in mind, the radio part was deliberately omitted from the PG23. Thanks to its rich analog and communication peripherals, the resulting pure microcontroller is the ideal heart of a wired IoT application with Cortex-M33 and up to 80 MHz.

100 % hardware & software compatible

Extensions of PG23 applications can be quickly realized at any time in the future using a pin and function compatible SoC (System on Chip) with RF part from the EFR32xG23 series. With one of the SoC variants BG22 (Bluetooth), ZG23 (Zig-Bee) and FG23 (proprietary solutions in the 2.4 GHz range) the IoT application is quickly "upgraded" to the desired radio standard.

Highlights of the EFM32PG23 family

  • ARM Cortex-M33 core with TrustZone
    • up to 512 KB Flash
    • 64 KB RAM
  • Ultra-Low Power
    • 21 μA/MHz Active
    • 1.03 μA EM2 mode with 8k RAM
    • 0.4 μA with RTC in EM4 mode
  • 5 x 5 mm QFN40 (29 GPIO)
  • 6 x 6 mm QFN48 (34 GPIO)

Secure end products thanks to strong security features

Security is a key issue in today's applications. SILICON LABS has therefore significantly improved and extended the security features for the latest generation of MCU and wireless devices. These are implemented and executed in hardware and software:

Hardware-accelerated Crypto Unit

  • Faster, more energy efficient and higher security than software-only solution

True Random Number Generator (TRNG)

  • Compliant with NIST SP800-90 and AIS-31 authentication of firmware updates
  • Prevents loading of tampered firmware or rollback to old versions

Secure Debug with Lock / Unlock

  • Debug locked for serial devices
  • Authenticated access for advanced error analysis

TrustZone

  • Cost-optimized hardware separation of security-relevant data

Starter Kit PG23 Pro Kit (PG23-PK2504A)

Starter Kit PG23 Pro Kit (PG23-PK2504A) for a quick start

The PG23 Pro Kit is a development platform with numerous sensors and diverse peripherals around an EFM32PG23 microcontroller.

Thanks to many application examples, the Simplicity Studio software or via GitHub, getting started is very easy. Included are a Segger J-Link on-board debugger and a completely integrated power analyzer. From within Simplicity Studio, you have 100% control of your application's power requirements. These are the best prerequisites for a modern low-power design with long battery runtimes.

Further information about the PG23 and the starter kit is available on request.
