The proven EM series in the M.2 form factor from SIERRA WIRELESS now also includes solutions for the latest mobile technology 5G.

5G means: faster data transmission, higher bandwidth and reduced latency. The technology thus enables fast, mobile Internet, autonomous driving, the transmission of high-resolution videos and new applications in industrial automation.

Fastest data transmission with 5G

The EM9190 and EM9191 wireless radio modules offer data rates of up to 4 Gbit/s for downlink in the frequency bands up to 6 GHz (sub-6). The EM9190 even achieves up to 5.5 Gbit/s, because it also supports transmission with millimeter waves from 20 GHz (mmWave).

Uplink speed is also significantly faster: Data rates of up to 600 Mbit/s for 5G sub-6 and even up to 3 Gbit/s for mmWave are supported here.

For worldwide deployments

With 19 frequency bands for 5G sub-6, the cellular modules support 5G networks worldwide. The EM9190 adds another four frequency bands for mmWave.

For areas where 5G technology is not yet available, the modules enable fast cellular connections with 31 frequency bands for 4G LTE cellular and nine frequency bands for 3G UMTS/HSPA.

Easy to integrate thanks to standard M.2 form factor

Thanks to the standardized M.2 form factor with a size of 52 x 30 mm, the radio modules can be quickly and conveniently integrated into compatible hardware, e.g. embedded PCs, routers or other applications for mobile computing.

This makes it easy to upgrade to future radio modules. The application thus remains future-proof for new challenges.

The modules provide PCIe and USB 3.1 interfaces.

Positioning included

In addition to mobile communication, the EM9190 and EM9191 modules also enable position determination via satellite. For this purpose, they can process the navigation signals of all common systems: GPS (USA), GLONASS (Russia), Galileo (Europe) and Beidou (China). For extremely accurate positioning, they support the L5 frequency band in addition to the commonly used L1 band.

For industrial requirements

With a temperature range of -40 to 85 °C, the modules are also suitable for industrial applications such as industrial routers and mobile devices with corresponding requirements.
