Successful "single" for small PCBs:
Motor driver IC for DC brushed motors up to 28 V
With its 6 x 6 mm, the tiny motor driver fits even on the smallest PCBs.
The compact TB9051FTG driver IC from TOSHIBA feels right at home with all DC brushed motors that operate with up to 5 A current consumption.
In industry, it is suitable for e.g. pump and valve control as well as speed-controlled machines. In the automotive sector, it is used for applications such as car locks, mirrors, seats or throttle valve control.
Powerful output stage
The TB9051FTG is designed as a low-impedance single-channel H-bridge. It consists of P-channel and N-channel MOSFETs, which eliminates the need for a charge pump. This reduces power consumption and noise. The RDS(ON) of P- and N-channel MOSFET is 0.34 ohm maximum.
The motor voltage may be in the range of 4.5 V to 28 V. The supply voltage of the IC is 4.5 V to 5.5 V.
Integrated protection and monitoring functions
The component is equipped with error detection techniques that ensure functional safety. This includes, for example, real-time monitoring of the motor current. This means that unforeseen blockages of the motor are detected quickly. Furthermore, it is possible to detect when the drive has reached a certain end position via the motor current. This saves the otherwise necessary limit switches.
A possible cable break can also be detected.
The motor voltage is monitored for undervoltage and the control logic for operating voltage that is too low or too high.
Small power giant
The TB9051FTG comes in a compact P-QFN28 housing (6 mm × 6 mm). This makes it ideal for very small PCBs. The device is AEC-Q100 qualified and has an operating temperature range of -40 to 125 °C.
