The board with plenty of sensor power for easy evaluation of sensors.

With the Thunderboard Sense 2, SILICON LABS offers a multi-sensor starter kit with BLE and Cloud connection.

Now you can easily test 7 sensors at once on a board just 30 x 45 mm in size:

  • Si7021 sensor for relative humidity and temperature
  • Si1133 UV index and ambient light sensor
  • Si7210 Hall effect sensor
  • TDK InvenSense ICM-20648 6-axis inertial sensor
  • TDK InvenSense ICS-43434 MEMS microphone
  • gas sensor for indoor air quality
  • air pressure sensor

The starter kit is based on the wireless SoC (System-on-Chip) EFR32MG12 Mighty Gecko from the same manufacturer. Equipped with 38.4 MHz operating frequency, 1024 kB flash and 256 kB RAM with low power consumption, the Thunderboard Sense 2 is the ideal platform for energy-saving IoT and environmental projects.

As a truly multi-protocol-compatible kit, the Thunderboard 2 supports proprietary stacks and the standard protocols Zigbee, Thread and Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE).

A particularly special feature are the environmental or ambient sensors from SILICON LABS. These include the Si7021, which can be used to measure the temperature and relative humidity with high precision.

The Si1133 detects the UV index and ambient light. This enables control of a sun protection blind in accordance with defined criteria, for example. The ambient light sensor switches lighting devices on and off according to the measured brightness values.

Convenient controls and information via smartphone
Values can be conveniently read on your smartphone via Bluetooth. Devices can easily be controlled via smartphone too. This function is enabled over the Bluetooth BLE technology from SILICON LABS Mighty Gecko in combination with a certified app. The app is available for all Android and iOS systems free of charge.

Cloud integration, including web client

The board is much more than a little gadget to enable data readout on your smartphone.
It also offers Cloud integration with a web client. This allows the storage of sensor data in the Cloud via the app. The data can then be visually presented in graphs.

The Thunderboard Sense 2 is programmed via a USB Micro-B cable and the integrated J-Link debugger. The board features an 8 MBit serial flash for Over-The-Air (OTA) firmware upgrades or for use as a universal non-volatile memory.
