Rechargeable MS lithium batteries:
Instant installation in the reflow process

08_ReflowBatterien_NL-HP_720px

Demand for reflow-compatible electronic components is constantly growing, due to the desire for increased production efficiency and more consistent product quality.

In response, Seiko Instruments (SII) has developed rechargeable button cells that can be conveniently integrated in the reflow installation process. The conventional rechargeable ML button cells (manganese-lithium-aluminium alloy) from SII are already successfully used in mass production.

The manufacturer has now succeeded in developing additional reflow variants of MS lithium batteries with higher voltage, greater capacity and superior cycle properties.

The technology offers the following 4 benefits:

Only 1.2 x 1.2 mm in size:
New TOSHIBA LDOs extend the operating time of battery-powered devices

08_TOSHIBA-LDO-Spannungsregler_NL-HP_720px

Ideal for the power supply of mobile devices, image-processing and audio-visual products:

TOSHIBAs TCR5BM and TCR8BM LDO regulators reduce power consumption and extend the operating time of battery-powered devices.

The manufacturer is releasing two new series of surface-mounted LDO regulators at the same time.

The 40 regulators in the TCR5BM series support a dropout voltage (V DO ) of only 100 mV and a maximum output current of 500 mA. What’s more, the 40 LDOs in the TCR8BM series offer
170 mV V DO and 800 mA output current. The TCR5BM and TCR8BM series are both available with VOUT options within a range of 0.8 V to 3.6 V.

Both series are suitable for applications including power supplies for micro-controllers (MCU),
HF devices and camera CMOS sensors in mobile devices or image-processing and audio-visual devices, as well as applications requiring increasingly lower supply voltages in the range of 1.0 V.

Detects UV light in the UV-A to UV-B range:
High and low-sensitivity photo diode comes in ultra-small SON-6C package

08_06_Ablic-UV-Sensor_NL-HP_720px

Ideal for measuring devices in the UV index or applications for radiation with UV light.

With the S-5420, Japanese manufacturer ABLIC claims to have released one of the smallest available silicon photo diodes on the market with sensitivity to UV-A and UV-B.

The S-5420 can measure UV light in the UV-A range, which causes liver spots and wrinkles on the skin, all the way through to the UV-B range, which causes sunburn.

The diode detects UV light without a filter by calculating the difference between high and low-sensitivity photo diode signals to remove visible light. The filterless design of the diode enables compact applications and prevents filter-induced damping.

50% smaller housings:
Seiko Instruments reduces the housing size of its 32-kHz quartz crystals

08_SC20T_Seiko_NL-HP_720px

The new SC-20T quartz crystal from Seiko Instruments can be used in the smallest of applications.

As the 32.768-kHz derivative of the SCX series, the quartz is now even more suitable for portable applications and printed circuit boards (PCB) with high component density, thanks to its extremely small dimensions of 2.05 mm x 1.20 mm and super flat housing size of 0.345 mm.

SC-20T is available with a load capacity of 6 pF, 7 pF, 9 pF or 12.5 pF and comes in a
100 % Pb-free SMD ceramic housing.

Artificial turf with environmentally friendly cork granulate at “GLYN sports ground”

Glyn Jones is awarded a certificate of honorary TV membership by Julia Baier (centre), Board Member of TV Idstein

The new artificial turf pitch in Idstein is a “sporty” collaboration between the state, city, district, sports association and sponsor. With a sum of 100,000 euros, GLYN is supporting a sustainable joint project and reducing the equity ratio of TV Idstein to 50 %.

Special importance was assigned to an artificial lawn, laid with environmentally friendly natural cork granulate. This natural, ecological and renewable cork offers players added comfort in the summer as it heats up far less than other types of granulate.

“GLYN Bottle” instead of plastic bottles at the Limesschule

08_GLYN-Bottle_NL-HP_720px

A steady drip hollows the stone!

Environment and sustainability are important issues at the Limesschule secondary school in Idstein.
Now, a refillable water bottle will replace plastic bottles at school and at home. All students can fill up their water bottles with the tested water for free, as often as they like, from the school's water taps. Since the international UNESCO project day 2018, the senior classes of the Limesschule in Idstein have been examining the environmental issue of “sustainability” in their school project.
