Only one voltage:

Displays require various voltages. Starting with 3.3 V for the logic to 20 V for the backlight, for example, as well as different negative voltages. An on-board voltage converter is the solution here. It enables the PCAP, display logic and background lighting to operate with a single voltage – without requiring a separate PCB. 

Only one connector:

This solution has various advantages. In purchasing and warehousing, only one article has to be managed. In production, it simplifies the process. The cost-effective 40-pin foil cable, which is identical throughout the entire TFT family, was selected for this solution. 

Compatibility within the family:

A standardised interface allows the 5.0” to be replaced with the 7.0”, for example, without the hardware or software needing to be modified. 

As a result, a low-end and high-end variant of the same product can be offered without significant cost. This compatibility allows for future product updates

LEDs easy to dim:

The quality LEDs can achieve a half-life of four and a half years when used nonstop. If the lighting is switched on for only 4 hours every day, the half-life is more than 25 years. The dimming function is particularly important for preserving the LEDs at high ambient temperatures. The TFT family therefore offers a separate pin for controlling the brightness using a PWM or analogue signals.

Availability and product life cycle: 

When the TFT family was developed, very low minimum order quantities was one major focus. Another objective was to reduce the standard lead time of 16-20 weeks to a few weeks or days. Customers and distributors have a say in the matter. After almost 10 years, all sizes are still available.
